Care for Epoxy or Polyurethan covered Hardwood Charcuterie Board / Cheese Boards
Cleaning
For daily cleaning, you can use mild dish soap or most non-abrasive household cleaners. You can also use warm water and a microfiber cloth, clean t-shirt, or paper towel. For a quick clean, glass cleaner can work well, and some can also kill germs.
Restoring Epoxy Luster
To restore luster, you can apply a small amount of mineral oil or Murphy’s Oil to a clean rag and rub it in with a circular motion. Wipe away excess oil with a clean rag, and buff the surface with a chamois or microfiber cloth to achieve your desired sheen.
Care for Hardwood Cutting Board and Charcuterie Board Care
Hardwood Cutting boards
“Do not submerge the board in water or put in the dishwasher.”
A wood cutting board or charcuterie board will last many years if the board is properly maintained. The key to maintaining a wooden board is to keep it oiled/conditioned so the wood will not dry out and warp or even crack in the most extreme cases.
After the board has been used, wash the board with warm water and a mild dish soap. If there are stains or unpleasant smells you can apply salt to the board and cut a lemon in half to use like a sponge.
The salt will act as an abrasive and the lemon will give the board a fresh smell. Let the board stand about three to five minutes, than rinse the board once more.
Dry with a soft cloth and place the board on edge so that the top and bottom of the board are exposed to the air. Doing so will allow the board to dry uniformly thus reducing the chances of warping.
When the board has dried it is now time to apply the Cutting Board Conditioner. There are many types of food friendly cutting board conditioning products: Walrus Oil, Minerial Oil, Linseed Oil, Flaxseed Oil, Coconut Oil, Lemon Oil, Fruit Oils, just to name a few. Keep in mind that the professional wax and oil mix are available online and in most stores.
Add a small amount of conditioner onto a paper towel or cloth and apply to the board.
After you apply the conditioner, the oil will soak into the board and leave the beeswax remaining on the surface. Let the board set a few hours or even overnight You can then buff beeswax into the surface with soft cloth. After this step you are set and your board is ready to be used again.
It is best to reapply the beeswax conditioner after each washing since the dish soap will remove the beeswax from the surface however, if the board looks good and doesn’t look dry you may be able to go a few washings before reapplying the beeswax conditioner.
